Sustainable Furniture Jakarta - Feature #2 Casaka Wood and Living

Sustainable Furniture Jakarta - Feature #2 Casaka Wood and Living

You may recall our first Sustainable Furniture post, which featured the stalwart in ethical timber furniture design, Ethnicraft (If you didn't get a chance to read it the first time Catch up here!…)

Today we bring you the second of our Sustainable Furniture Jakarta posts, featuring the newly established local brand, CASAKA Wood and Living.

Like Ethnicraft, Casaka values the beauty in natural materials, in particular timber, creating products which are made from quality, ethically sourced materials. We are sure you will soon agree that Casaka's designs are stunning and bound to stand the test of time.

We hope you enjoy.

When was the brand Casaka Wood & Living established?

Casaka was established in February 2015.

What is the Casaka Wood & Living ethos?

Casaka believes in the synergy of quality and aesthetics. We believe that furniture should serve both its function and its design just the same and we always ensure each of our products is a one-of-a-kind artwork that is not only pleasant to the eye but also long-lasting and sustainable.

Where does Casaka Wood & Living get inspiration for its design?

Our main inspiration comes from the wood itself. We try to highlight the utmost beauty of the wood. No two pieces of wood are alike. Just like the way every story is unique, so is every piece in our range.

Please describe the Casaka Wood & Living style

Each of our products comes from nature, refined with a contemporary touch, and enclosed with a sense of high usability.

Where does Casaka Wood & Living source its sustainable materials?

As we are conscious of where our materials come from, how they are sourced and how they are used. We only use locally salvaged wood sourced from the government instances.

Please tell us about the move towards using sustainable materials in Indonesia

When trees need to be removed due to declining health, we rescue them and give them a second life as high quality furniture.

What advice can you give those who are keen to use local materials in their home decorating?

Ensure the wood used in any wood products is legally sourced. Check the quality of the material including the dryness of the wood and the kind of treatment used to prepare the piece as not all wood is robust and lice free.

Do you feel that the average consumer's attitude towards the use of local, sustainable materials has changed during your time in this area?

It has certainly changed. Years ago when we just started producing wooden furniture as a supplier, consumers tended to seek imported materials and had little awareness of a materials’ sustainability. But lately there is a growing demand for local ecological materials and this is why Casaka Wood & Living is here today.
