Hi.

We’re Liz and Jo! Thanks for joining us at a journey bespoke, our Jakarta-based blog that we started back in 2014 and continued to write until the end of 2019.

Top Spots to Stop on Jl. Cipete Raya, South Jakarta

Top Spots to Stop on Jl. Cipete Raya, South Jakarta

Happy New Post Friday! Today we are back on Jl. Cipete Raya with an updated and refreshed post for you! We first shared this 'street story' in March 2015 and since then, new vibrant businesses have moved in and sadly some have moved out.

For our ajb friends new to Jakarta, Jl. Cipete Raya is located in the South Jakarta suburb of South Cipete (bordering Cilandak) and is a 2km through-road from Jl. Fatmawati to Jl. Antasari. Jl. Cipete Raya is one of our favourite Jakarta streets to sip great coffee, green juice or jamu, enjoy a smoothie bowl, avocado toast or healthy green salad,  ...search for homewares, children's clothing and enjoy both local and international cuisine.

If you would like to see pics of our original post head to the gallery below for some ajb nostalgia.

Ayo! Let's Go!

Pikul Coffee and Roastery

street-view-of-pikul.jpg

Pikul Coffee and Roastery is the work of the guys behind Goni Coffee - a coffee shop that has fast become one of the leading names in quality coffee in Jakarta. Owners Argam and Fauzan are the chief in-house baristas at Pikul, and together with their team of capable staff will make you a top coffee - but wait, there's more! Pikul's cakes and sweets are also deserving of your attention, Pikul make their own kue lupis - a traditional sweet cake made with coconut, glutinous rice and gulah merah (palm sugar). Be quick to secure this delicacy though, as it sells out fast!

We drank: A latte for me (Jo) and a cappuccino for Liz.
We (always) eat: A slice of toasted chocolate banana bread. This recipe was introduced to Goni by Fauzan's sister and the recipe has stayed ever since. I believe his sister is still baking this treat for both Goni and Pikul.

Barista and owner of Pikul, Argam, will always greet you with a lovely smile and make you the perfect coffee

Chief Barber and Supplies

Here's one for the fellas! As you step into The Buya building you will notice a very slick looking barber shop called Chief. We can't yet comment on their services, but from the consistently occupied barbers chairs Chief looks like a great place for some male pampering.

Crematology Coffee Roasters

Best for: Every kind of espresso-based coffee, as well as non-coffee options such as cold pressed juice and tea.  If you are feeling a little peckish we recommend the Crematology smoothie bowl or small baked treats from their cafe cabinet. First Floor:
Snuggle Up Kids
Instagram: snuggleupkids

Best for: The most adorable European branded clothing and accessories for babies and young children we have seen in Jakarta, and we don't use the word adorable lightly. Snuggle Up Kids compares to any high end children's clothing boutique, based on the brands they have chosen and the space they have developed. Expect to see tiny children's swimwear, hand made rag style and crocheted dolls, tutus, wooden toys, gum boots backpacks and more.
Snuggle Up Kids also has a playground that is open every day from 9am until 8pm, (this is where you  spotted us at the beginning of the post..and below - why should the kids have all the fun!) as well as weekend art and craft classes. If we had little tots again, we would be meeting our friends with babes at Crematology on the ground floor then head to Snuggle Up Kids for a leisurely browse whilst the kids used the playground. Those were the days! ;)

Located on the 2nd floor of The Buya building, Pure Foods Company is a cafe as well as health food store which also offers an organic catering service.

We ate: Mediterranean Bowl and Farmer's Bowl
We drank: Cold-pressed juice of pineapple, orange, jicama (bengkuang), turmeric, ginger and lemon as well as cups of herbal tea (which accompanied our healthy bowls)
Take away:We never leave this store empty handed. Our arms are always full of bags of seeds and grains, cacao nibs, granola and bottles of almond milk. On a recent visit we even purchased some beautiful pottery by our friend Ibu Dian of Kemala Home Living.

Best for: Srsly Coffee is another great spot to stop for locally brewed coffee on Jl. Cipete Raya, and for a seriously rumbly tummy, their signature dish the 'avocado bomb.' The Srsly Coffee espresso blend is sourced from Giyanta, which is one of our favourite local roasters. Srsly Coffee opens early (by Jakarta cafe standards) at jam 0730, which is perfect for the Jakarta commuter or Saturday morning school-sport parent. We also love that there's ample parking out the front of Srsly Coffee and excellent wifi.
